Preparation
Before you even reach for your styling and finishing product, you need to think about your shampoo, what does your hair need? What does your scalp need? Do you have a build-up of product in your hair where you need a specialist product to remove this?
Make sure that whatever you use is fit for purpose and will do the job properly. All product needs to be removed so you have a clean foundation on which to style your Valentine’s masterpiece.
Application
Many guys just don’t apply products to their hair effectively, choosing the correct amount of product is key and making sure that it’s emulsified in your hands and then distributed in your hair evenly is key. You often see guys walking around with a lump of wax at the crown or product dispersed through the top but not through the sides and back of their hair.
Work the product properly before application and it will go on smoothly and effectively. The last thing you want is for your date to be distracted by a ball of wax stuck to the side of your hair during dinner.
Fragrance
You want to smell nice and so does your hair. A nice clean fresh fragrance in your haircare regime is the way to go. Before buying any hair product, check the smell by opening the top of the bottle and taking a few sniffs. Understated is always the way to go. We took great care with fragrance when formulating the GBH products, so they smell fresh and clean but are not over powering. You can’t have your date coughing through dinner because of the pungent smell coming from your hair. That is never a good way to go.
The tools
The man blow dry is back, and it’s back with a bang. Tools are an important part of creating your ‘fresh from the salon’ look. Using a professional hairdryer and a brush are important when it comes to getting the look.

The all important finish
You’ve cleansed your hair, you have applied your styling product where required, the blow dry is complete. Now the most important step is creating your finish and making sure it holds for as long as you want it to. Select your wax, clay or dust to ensure you have camera ready hair. Remember to emulsify so that you activate the product, using a small amount and building up where required. Don’t over do it to start with or you’ll have to wash it all out and start again.
Take a selfie for your social media
Your look is complete, your hair looks, feels and smells amazing. What’s left but to take a selfie and post it on your social media accounts? More important than that, enjoy your evening!
